"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit away from me." Psalm 51:10-11
There is a level of facing our past issues, heartbreaks, and trauma with God.
When in their wilderness, the Israelites complained against God saying: " Why have you led us from Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread or water and we detest this wretched food! Then the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and they bit them so that many Israelites died." Numbers 21:5-6
Remember how I stated previously how the symbol pharaoh chose to use to show his "authority" was a cobra? Also Eve was tempted by the devil whose disguise was a-- snake? This is a God-created animal that of course Satan chose to pervert and "claim" in many ways in ancient-to-modern day history to show as "evil".
It's as if God was saying," Okay, if your missing your slave-master pharaoh so much so much; here is my discipline to you that will remind you of him and his oppression." This was all apart of their journey to cast off the slave-mindset that made them bound, and make a heart of "flesh" instead of stone(as the Bible says). It was also about learning to be God's children in identity again.
It goes on to say:
"The people then came to Moses and said, ' We have sinned by speaking against God and against you. Intercede with the Lord so that He will take the snakes away from us. And Moses interceded for the people. Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Make a snake (image) and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bit looks at it, he will recover. So Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. Whenever someone was bitten, and he looked at the bronze snake, he recovered." Numbers 21:7-9
If they weren't faced with the reminder of pharaoh's sting on their lives, enough -- now they had to REALLY face their enemy and their place of bondage more than ever. They needed to see that it wasn't God who was their bondage -- it was their slave-mindset. God was moving them on their journey, if they hadn't complained and stopped trusting God, they wouldn't have had to stop and stay there a long time dealing with those horrible wounds.
God made them face the reality of their trauma (or bondage) but He made them face it with Him.
As your kid, yourself, and/or your family heads to your promise land-- God will let you face your trauma/bondages in life because He wants to create a new heart in you that is "steadfast in spirit" that is molded for and matches what He has for you ready, in the promise land.
So whenever the mindset of your Egypt, your former bondage, and everything that holds you back comes up; face it and face it with Jesus. Don't give room to your past "snakes" but " humbly accept the Word planted in you that can save you." (James 1:21 ) Seek his face. "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13
Lord, break anyone reading this free from any bondage or trauma and fully deliver them to You in your love. Let us work to seek You, and help us trust You even when we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let us find our identity in You and not get distracted from anything from our past in Jesus' name. Amen
